When playing in the yard, Mako might be speedy and agile like his namesake, but is so sweet and gentle at home that he must be named after someone's favorite childhood stuffed animal. Mako wants to be sure to be available in case you need him, so can usually be found nearby - it's always good to check before stepping backwards. Mako is an amazing combination of high energy fun and calm, snuggly companionship.

Mako was a model guest on a recent overnight visit to a volunteer's home. Mako is housetrained and did not get on furniture unless invited, but did want us to mention that should you let him on your bed, he is quite the snuggler and flexible about sleeping in. Mako is a little shy, but politely greets family members and was soliciting pets from everyone by the end of his visit. Mako loves any touch, especially getting his neck rubbed. He tolerates baths, and playfully enjoys getting toweled off. Mako wants to be near you all the time at home, but quietly waits for your return should you need to leave his side for something really important.

Mako is tired of the boring shelter food, and even though he stares longingly and drools a bit in the kitchen and at the dinner table, he keeps all paws on the floor. When you are ready for some action, Mako loves to play in the yard: zooming around, playing tug and fetch, and recently learned to return the ball to his partner's feet. Mako bounces joyfully when he sees you holding the leash and loves to explore the outdoors. Mako will need some patient training to work on leash manners and learn to not feel threatened by other dogs he sees when out, but he wants to be with his people and will catch on quickly. Mako rides perfectly in the back seat, even in a storm, in case you want to go on an adventure away from home.

Mako would love for you to come visit him at APA! and give him a chance to show off his sweet, playful personality, and maybe even play some fetch. Come meet Mako, he's waiting to come home with you.

INTERESTED IN FOSTERING?

We are currently closed to the public and are only open by appointment (foster or adopter), but we are still diligently working to place dogs in foster homes! You can inquire about fostering a specific dog by submitting an inquiry through the dog's individual profile on this website or by emailing [email protected] to get more information about how to be matched with a foster dog.

Please do not visit our shelters without talking with us first. To prevent community spread, we cannot have large crowds gathering in our shelters.
