22 Cats Transferred from Williamson County Animal Shelter

On Sunday, APA! transferred 22 cats from the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter.  This is in addition to the dogs that we've pulled over the last couple of months when there were no dogs to pull from TLAC.

The shelter reported yesterday a 96% save rate for the month of January. We're happy that we were able to play a small part of that number. We're so thankful to the staff of the Williamson County shelter for being so helpful in getting cats and dogs ready for us when space becomes available in our program.

We've had so many adoptions in the past month - more than we had expected (our building is now greatly increasing our capacity) - and we found ourselves with half-empty catteries at PetSmart and PETCO! We needed to get more cats into those spaces asap, but all of the cats in our program are still going through their quarantine periods in foster homes.

We contacted TLAC first and they filled us up the best they could with adoption-ready cats who had already been through their quarantine period. We don't usually take adoption-ready pets from the shelters - we prefer to take them out and perform all of the get-ready services (quarantine, spay/neuter, microchip, shots, etc) ourselves to not further bog down the already stretched-too-thin animal services divisions at the cities. But we found ourselves suddenly with lots of openings and no cats.  Wilco was able to completely fill up our catteries while still keeping enough cats for their adoption program.

We also have been pulling into foster from TLAC daily for the ones that still need quarantine so that we can get back to providing the make-ready services ourselves for all of the cats who go through our program. With kitten season just around the corner, we expect to be really full soon.
