Tonight will be the last AAC/TLAC planning meeting for receiving community input. Tonight's topic will be "Exploring outsourcing possibilities, increasing community involvement to reduce costs and increase lifesaving."
Dr. Jefferson will be presenting again the proposal for APA! to provide operations for the TLAC Adoption Program. We believe that with a dedicated workforce solely focused on adoptions, the number of "live outcomes" will skyrocket. TLAC is responsible for every aspect of Animal Services and it is impossible for them to focus 100% of their energy on Adoptions.
APA! is encouraged by the number of volunteers who have joined with us in the last 18 months to make Austin a no kill city. We have about 500 active volunteers and 400 foster homes.
We believe the community really cares about making Austin a no kill city and will help in big ways to make that happen, whether it's giving their time or money. Without a doubt, saving more of the pets who are currently being euthanized will take more resources. We'd like to provide those resources for the city without having to increase their budget. Because TLAC is a city entity, they can accept donations, but cannot actively fundraise. As a private nonprofit, we can fundraise to raise the funds that will be needed to save the additional pets.
The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. and will be held at the Waller Creek Center, 625 E. 10th Street, Room 104.
