Recently, you helped fund an important heart surgery for a playful 2-year-old pup named Anna.
Anna still needs you.
Her heart surgery, a PDA or Patent Ductus Arteriosus, surgery was performed on July 26th but not without complications. The surgeon performing the procedure said that it was the worst case he had ever seen. The artery was very large and the area was extremely difficult to maneuver.
During the surgery, Anna experienced bleeding complications. The surgeon did the best job possible under the circumstances but unfortunately Anna's surgery failed. She is currently back in her foster home and is being treated for an infection in her heart caused by the abnormal and irregular flow of blood in her heart. She will be on numerous antibiotics for 3-4 months before we will attempt to repair her heart another way.
Sadly, these complications were likely because Anna did not find her way to APA! early enough. A 2-year-old dog undergoing this surgery is much more likely to experience complications.
The good news is, Anna does not feel any pain or discomfort. She tires easily and cannot be as active as a normal dog but she is eating well, loves pets and rubs, and is enjoying life with her foster family.
But just because Anna came to APA! later in life doesn't mean she doesn't deserve a normal, active life. We will try again to repair her heart and we need your support to do so.
Will you help Anna get the surgery she needs? Please donate now.
