Got mice? Snakes? Voles? Just want a few adorable miniature low-maintenance wild-cats around your home? We have the solution for you!
Sometimes, Austin Pets Alive! rescues badly abused or poorly socialized kitties from the shelter. These scared, often traumatized or sometimes feral cats aren’t house cats. They may have never seen the inside of a home, and some of them may have had minimal or solely negative contact with people. But APA! believes these kitties don’t deserve to die just because they can’t go into the domesticated home life. These gorgeous felines deserve a comfy barn, shed or other structure and a lifetime of food, water and kitty playmates!
Just like all APA! kitties, they’re spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, flea-free, and tested for FIV/Felv. Some are somewhat social and would love the occasional pet and cuddle - others would prefer their space. We prefer to place at least 2 cats at each location, since kitties do better socially with a buddy.
They need an enclosed space to acclimate for a week, like a shed or a large dog kennel (we can provide one if necessary), and access to food, water and shelter. Food can be picked up at night to prevent visits from unwanted critters. Kitties will be brought to your home by an APA! representative! There is no fee, though we always appreciate donations to help us save more animals.
E-mail [email protected] if you're interested in adopting some of the cats we have in our barn placement program. Help us reduce the killing of unwanted animals, and help us bring Austin even closer to no-kill - bring a barn cat into your life!
Can’t adopt a barn cat, but want to help anyway? We need volunteers to deliver cats to release sites, find new release sites and provide temporary foster care for feral cats waiting to find a permanent stomping ground. E-mail [email protected] if you'd like to help!
