Austin Pets Alive! will be hosting a special screening of the documentary “The Champions” along with Q&A with the director

“The Champions” is an inspirational story about the pit-bulls rescued from the brutal fighting ring of Michael Vick, and those who risked it all to save them, despite the intense pressure to kill them. It is a story of second-chances, redemption and hope. This uplifting documentary takes us on a journey about much more than just dogs: about prejudice, being misunderstood, the power of resilience, and the significance of the relationship we as humans have with animals.

The movie’s director, Darcy Dennett, will hold a Q&A immediately following the film.

The screening will take place during the American Pets Alive! (AmPA) annual No Kill Conference which is produced by Austin Pets Alive! (APA!). “The purpose of the conference is to teach people from other communities how Austin achieved and maintains its No Kill status,” said Dr. Ellen Jefferson, Executive Director.

“We chose to host this screening in conjunction with our American Pets Alive! Conference because it so clearly illustrates the mission of Austin Pets Alive!,” said Victoria Brooks, AmPA Manager. “We believe that animals deserve a second chance and that it is worth trying to save them. That is the message of our conference and the message of this film.”

Doors open at 6 p.m. for a Tex-Mex dinner and drinks with the movie’s director and national No Kill leaders.
