Thank you to everyone who has been sending love, support and prayers to Bonnie in the last week - it seems to be helping!! We have made it through two days of meds to treat her fungal infection and I'm happy to report she has not upchucked once in almost 48 hours. (We celebrate even the smallest milestones!) She clearly feels so much better - she's more active and is even starting to get a little rambunctious with our other two dogs, though I don't let them play together much as I'm afraid our big puppy (60+ lbs.) might slam into her and hurt her.
On Monday when we started the treatments, she was down to 33 lbs, having lost a little weight from earlier last week when she stopped eating on and off for a few days. This week I am confident she is going to put on weight (she ate nine jars of baby food yesterday) and we're looking forward to our next vet visit again on Monday when we will weigh in. Please continue to send prayers that she starts gaining weight!! That will mean the meds are attacking the fungus and shrinking it to make more room in her intestines for more food to absorb into her body. A special thank you to the vaccine distributor in Hutto who donated a trial vaccine that we've added in addition to the meds, and to the Randall's on Lake Austin Blvd. for giving us a good deal on the expensive pills. I am certain that if any dog can beat the odds, Bonnie will be it!
In the meantime, she is getting stronger, going for longer walks and trotting most of the way (she loves being outside!) She has also figured out how to bark at the mailman like the rest of our dogs, and looooves flopping down on her big cushy dog bed to rest. She's quite the lover and would be content for someone to just stroke her ears and head for hours on end. I also stroke her tummy gently and lightly over her rib cage and she just closes her eyes and sighs in contentment. We are so thankful for her in our lives and are determined to help her keep getting better! I'll post some additional photos of her having fun in a day or two. Stay tuned and thanks for boosting her up!
