Kristina started working for APA! as a Neonatal Kitten Feeder in July of 2019, and it was only a matter of time before she became a bottle baby foster. In the course of her first year, she fostered 47 kittens and cats! Umami was one of her fosters, but something about his precious little soul struck a chord with Kristina, so she decided to make his foster home a forever one.
“I love that APA! believes that every animal deserves a fighting chance, regardless of behavior or circumstances,” explained Kristina when asked what made her adopt from APA!. Umami’s sweet spirit instantly captured her heart from the moment she held his fragile little body in her hands to feed him. There was something different about Umami compared to her previous fosters. She knew right then that she was going to watch this kitten grow up big and strong.
Kristina didn’t hesitate when asked what she loves about Umami. “HE IS SO AFFECTIONATE. It’s like, unlimited biscuits over here! He is so curious and friendly, it’s impossible not to fall in love with him. His demeanor has always been the same. He was a perfect bottle baby, a perfect gruel monster, and now a perfect, ever-growing, teen kitty!”
For Kristina, the most rewarding part of working in the nursery is getting the chance to see the baby bottles grow. “You have this tiny life in your hands who you think is fragile and easily broken, but kittens are so incredibly resilient! These babies are overcoming the odds and thriving! I think raising kittens so tiny you can fit up to three in one hand into independently thriving mini cats is a great example of how we all can overcome the odds stacked against us. They bring so much joy to my life and give me a purpose I didn’t know I needed until it was in front of me. My experience adopting from APA! has provided me with a future of love, laughter, and pride.”
Umami’s life started out as an orphaned kitten, all alone in the world. Now he’ll never have to know that feeling again as he spends the rest of his days engulfed in Kristina’s love. Sometimes you don’t know when that special animal is going to enter your life and become a permanent part of it. Umami and Kristina’s story is a foster win rather than a foster fail, and we’re so happy that they found their happily ever after.
