Florence arrived at our doors on this last day of January. The request came in from Comanche All Pets Alive after they were told about a litter of puppies that were abandoned out in the country. Florence was among this litter and was one of the more frightened of the group. At 7 months old, Florence was very docile and undersocialized due to spending most of her life apart from humans.
After struggling to find fosters in Comanche, they reached out to us for help. Thankfully, fosters came forward to bring these puppies to safety, and Florence made her journey to Austin Pets Alive!. In her new home, she began to learn how to love and trust humans. Until this point, she had spent her life not knowing what love from humans felt like – she didn't know what it felt like to be safe around us.
After a few days, her foster, Aliessa, shares that Florence really came out of her shell and started behaving as a puppy should. Aliessa recalls that whenever she looked into Florence's sweet face and puppy-dog brown eyes, she could see her gratitude and love – Florence was telling her, “Thank you for loving me.”
It wasn’t long after this moment that Florence caught Matthew’s attention. Florence’s gentle spirit, paired with her big floppy ears, stuck with Matthew. It was love at first sight. Once in her new home, she quickly warmed up. “She is such a lover. I’m not sure I’ve ever met a dog that checks in so often to get loved on. She is a sweetheart," happily shares Matthew.
Florence now spends her days enjoying her time in Matthew’s backyard, where she stalks squirrels, reminiscent of her days living in the countryside. Each day she spends with Matthew in her forever home, she sheds a layer of fear she had built around her when she was living a life of abandonment. We’re so thankful for the network of people who helped get her to the place of trust she’s at today.
Florence was ready to share her love with someone and feel theirs in return, she was just waiting to find her person. Thanks to donors like you, we were able to help her find that person with Matthew.
