APA! held its first adoption event at the downtown Austin Farmer's Market today. Lauren, Jenalou, and I were the main volunteers, and Ryan, Sarah, and Meg all stopped by to visit. It was a blast. And totally insane in a good way. The wall of people around our booth was so thick most of the day that I couldn't see anything past them. We went through an entire 16 oz bottle of hand sanitizer with our constant pleas to disinfect hands before touching the puppies. We started the day with 6 great little doggies. There were five little terrier cuties (Larry, Mac, Mo, Slick and Curly) that had been unceremoniously abandoned at the shelter a month ago at a mere two weeks of age. And we had sweet Sophia, a 10-week-old black sheperd mix who thinks she is a lap dog. Four of our five terriers had found new loving homes by the end of the day. We all had a great time, and capped off the day with free scones from Living Arts Bakery as they were closing down. We hope to be back at the market on a regular basis.
This wouldn't have been possible without tireless foster mom Cheri G and her daughter selflessly taking on the task of raising such young pups. APA! would be nowhere without its great fosters. For more information on how you can adopt, volunteer, or foster, please visit our website.
