The APA! surgery clinic has spayed and neutered approximately 500 pets since mid July! Without our own surgical suite we were having to contract surgeries out to other veterinary clinics in Austin and could only have 100 surgeries performed each month. The increase in spays/neuters that is occurring with the opening of the APA! surgery clinic allows animals to reach adopters faster, which opens up spaces for new animals at APA!. These new animals come directly from Town Lake Animal Center’s daily euthanasia list.
Unfortunately the autoclave we were using, a machine that sterilizes the surgical equipment used every day to safely fix the animals, has broken down. Without this valuable piece of equipment NO surgeries can be performed! We desperately need your help. Any donation is so greatly appreciated and will help us continue our mission of making Austin a NO KILL city.
Update September 16th, 2009: A huge thanks to SouthLamar Vet Clinic, AM/PM Animal Hospital, and South 1st Vet Clinic!! All three of these hospitals opened their doors to us this morning no questions asked and let us use their autoclaves! Thanks to their generosity, we were able to do surgery today and tomorrow. Our next surgery day after that is on Tuesday, September 22nd. We really hope to have raised enough funds to purchase our own autoclave by then- with each donation we get a little closer!
