For those who call Texas their home, they are no stranger to 100 + degree summer days. Deemed, "Texas Winter," you can find many Austinites taking refugee in their homes during peak hours of the day in order to avoid the harsh warmth of the sun. Unfortunately, the pets in our care don't have the same luxury. Instead, our teams must come up with creative ways to keep our dogs and barn cats cool during our hottest days of the year.
Because of this, the heat fund that was built out last summer has quickly depleted. Our hope is to rebuild this fund so that this summer – and in the summers to come – we are able to adequately care for all the amazing pets who call our shelter home. If you are able to support our heat fund, please give here.
We also have a vested interest in every precious pet in our community. While we have the luxury of having pet experts in our back pocket, we recognize that the vast majority of pet owners in Austin do not have this resource.
If you are the owner of an active dog or outdoor cat, we encourage you to learn from our experts in the below videos on how to keep your pet safe during the summer months.
