Austin Pets Alive! is proud to be the beneficiary of the 2017 Paddle for Puppies, presented by Austin Subaru, benefitting our very own Parvo Puppy Program.
Parvo, short for the canine parvovirus, is a highly contagious viral illness, often affecting puppies or dogs lacking proper vaccinations. Without treatment, parvo is deadly.
The Austin Pets Alive! Parvo Puppy Program is the first of its kind in the nation, saving more than 3,000 puppies since it began. Through quarantine, careful cross-contamination protocols, and consistent care and treatment, our program provides shelters with an alternative to euthanasia in puppies who have contracted the virus, and we are proud to say that we are now also spearheading research into parvo treatment in order to save even more puppies!
Grab your friends and family and come support Austin’s parvo puppies at Rowing Dock. Your water-loving dog is invited, too! Check in begins at 6:45am on August 27th, before the heat sets in.
The paddle begins at 7:45am at Rowing Dock. Participants will make their way towards the Austin American Statesman property, 2.5 miles down the river, just past the Congress Street Bridge. Depending on skill level/wind/current, etc., this should take about an hour. From there, paddlers will turn around and head back to Rowing Dock.
The entire journey will be accompanied by live music – on the water! And snacks and cold brew will be waiting for you back on land.
Don’t wait to buy your tickets! Registration caps at 500 people, and you don’t want to miss this fun-filled event!
