June 9, 2014 (Austin, TX)- This Thursday, the Austin City Council will review an item which could result in Austin Pets Alive! continuing operations on the land where Town Lake Animal Center (TLAC) is currently located. Hundreds of people are supporting Keeping APA! in the Heart of Austin including many local musicians. Willie Nelson, whose daughters Amy and Paula are APA! Fosters, sent a letter to Council in support of the item.
Austin is the largest no-kill city in the nation due in great part to the innovative programs APA! developed specifically to save animals at the greatest risk of being killed in the shelter. Since 2008, APA! has saved more than 25,000 dogs and cats. Keeping Austin No-Kill is a journey, not a destination. And this week’s council meeting marks an important step on the journey.
APA! anticipates hundreds of Austinites attending the meeting to support including APA! in the master plan for Lamar Beach and assuring APA! can continue to operate on the land where TLAC is currently located.
