Some of you may remember the two dogs we posted about on Monday who were suffering severe complications after smoke inhalation due to the Bastrop fire. We're happy to report that, Lilly (pictured), is doing much better today (the vets were not sure that she'd survive a couple of days ago). However, she is still in oxygen and can't stay out for long without serious consequences. Lady is looking a little worse - her breathing is more labored - but she's still not as bad as Lilly. She does better when she is nebulized, so they are increasing that to try to help. Unfortunately, their costs have increased, so we've raised the chipin total to $3,000.
Both dogs are currently in ICU with oxygen, which is extremely expensive. The rest of the medical care has added up quickly: x-rays, blood work, IV fluids, antibiotics, nebulizing, repeating blood work to ensure Lilly is not in DIC (a terrible problem that occurs when the body just has way too much insult and causes internal bleeding spontaneously). They are VERY sick, and treatment is very costly. Lilly and Lady's people want nothing more than their dogs to pull through, as they have lost everything in the fire. Please consider donating to these pups' medical care through our chipin.
Update: 9/24: Both girls are doing better. Lilly was taken off of the oxygen and could breathe on her own, but cannot do any activity. Lady kept getting worse and the vets are concerned that she has damage in her nasal passages, which is quite serious for a dog. Unfortunately, their bills have continued to mount and even with the nice discount, we're up to $6,000 in costs for these two.
Update 9/30: Both girls have gone home and the family is very excited to be reunited! Thank you to everyone who has helped save their lives!
