December 6, 2019: the day Leviathan’s life would have come to a tragic end if APA! wasn’t there to step in. Last Friday was his deadline to find care elsewhere or be euthanized. Corpus Christi Animal Care Services recognized that they were unable to provide this sweet boy with the medical care he needs, but they also struggled with ending an innocent life – so they reached out to us. We’ll never turn our backs to the animals that need us most, so of course we said yes to taking Leviathan into our care.
Leviathan, Levi for short, was suffering severe injuries when he was surrendered as a stray to Corpus Christi Animal Care Services. Due to the nature of his injuries, it’s presumed that he was hit by a car. Both of his hind legs were broken, preventing him from being able to use them. At only eight months old, it appeared Levi’s life was about to be cut short because the shelter in Corpus Christi doesn’t have the medical clinic needed to surgically fix these types of injuries; but luckily, we do.
So Levi made his way up to Austin to get his second chance at life. Once he was in the care of our Medical Triage and Wellness Clinic, we were able to have his legs x-rayed so we could see the severity of his injuries. Levi has three different breaks between his two legs, causing him great pain. In order to walk again, he needs orthopedic surgery.
On this very day, Levi is in our clinic getting prepared to undergo surgery to fix his legs, a surgery that would not be possible without your support. Our clinic relies on our community to help fund these costly surgeries so that dogs with injuries like Levi’s can have the chance at life they deserve.
The medical clinic works off of a shoestring budget every single day, taking in the cases that need us most. Levi’s surgery alone would cost thousands if it were to be performed at a private clinic. No matter the cost, APA! is here to find a lifesaving solution so that these vulnerable lives don’t get cut short.
We ask that you keep Levi in your thoughts as he undergoes his surgery in order to have the chance to walk again. This end of year, we ask that you keep all the animals that need you most in your thoughts. We need your support so we can continue to save even more lives in 2020, because no puppy’s story should end at eight months if it doesn’t have to. Give today because puppies like Levi need you most so they can grow up to live the long stories they’re meant to.
