Lil’ Debbie is happy, wiggling, 5 year old brindle boxer mix with a new lease on life. A few weeks ago, on a bright Sunday afternoon in June, Lil’ Debbie was sent off to start a new chapter in her life with a new forever family.
When Lil’ Debbie first came to Austin Pets Alive! she was treated by APA!’s medical staff for a painful infection caused by ticks and she had substantial injuries to both of her rear legs. Sadly, Lil’ Debbie had suffered from abuse and neglect before APA! was called on to bring her in. After almost six months of surgery, physical therapy, and medication, Lil’ Debbie is now in a lifelong home with one of APA!’s dog behavior team volunteers, Christina McGee.
“I love Lil' Debbie!” said Jordana Estrada, Veterinary Technician for Austin Pets Alive! “The entire clinic does. She is the reason we do what we do.”
Lil’ Debbie’s former foster mom Brooke Timm was working with Lil’ Debbie on meeting new people, to help ensure that her past wouldn’t have a negative effect on her future. “Debs is the dog I never have to worry about when I go out to restaurants. She is sweet to everybody,” said Timm.
Lil’ Debbie is ready to get back in to action. Even though she is still on vet-mandated crate rest, Debbie is trying to walk as much as she can.
“Lil’ Debbie had a hard past but she’s still one of the happiest dogs I’ve seen. Her strength, resilience and love of life is inspiring,” said Selah Simpson, the Dog Adoption Counselor that sent Lil’ Debbie home.
Congratulations to Lil’ Debbie and her new family! We wish you all the best.
