Media Release: City of Austin to Celebrate “Love Your Rescue Pet Day” with Austin Pets Alive!

(AUSTIN) July 10, 2017 – Mayor Steve Adler has officially proclaimed July 15, 2017 “Love Your Rescue Pet Day” (LYRPD) in honor of the work Austin Pets Alive! has done in and for the Austin community. To celebrate the day, APA! has teamed up with a number of local businesses to create a unique, Austin-centric daytime event and an evening concert benefitting the nonprofit.

“As proud supporters of Austin Pets Alive!, we think that Love Your Rescue Pet Day – centered around the love we have for our rescue pets – is a great fit both for Austinites and Castor & Pollux, especially as we introduce the new standard in pet food with our Purposeful Pet Food,” said Pete Brace, VP of Communications and Pet Parent Relations at Merrick Pet Care. “Austin is a true example of a community that values its pets and considers them family, made even more apparent by Mayor Adler’s ‘Love Your Rescue Pet Day’ proclamation.”

The daytime festivities, called the LYRPD Celebration and hosted at The ABGB, kick off at 3:00 pm and includes:

• A pop-up shop village from local businesses
• QuickDraw photo booth
• Puppy pools and a pet bandana decoration station hosted by Yelp
• The ABGB’s latest APA!APA beer release
• A huge raffle with prizes like multiple chances to win an entire year of premium organic pet food by Castor & Pollux from their new Purposeful Pet Food line; an acoustic guitar signed by Spoon, The New Pornographers, and many more

The LYRPD Celebration will also host an audio storytelling project called “The APA! StoryBooth,” where participants can step inside APA!’s Airstream trailer to tell a tale about their relationship with their pet. Throughout the day, more than 20 businesses have also vowed to donate a percentage of their sales to Austin Pets Alive! so no matter where they are, Austinites can participate in this day of support for rescue pets.

In the evening, the LYRPD Concert benefitting APA! will feature Project ATX6 artists Leo Rondeau, Carson McHone and Beth Chrisman. Doors will open at 8:00 pm and tickets and more information can be found at LYRPD.com.
