In an effort to assist Austin Animal Center with ongoing flood relief as they’ve reached critical capacity, Austin Pets Alive! is pulling 60+ AAC animals into their programs on Wednesday, July 1 and Thursday, July 2, increasing their own intake by 20 percent.
The Memorial Day floods and the consistent storms throughout the month of June heavily affected both organizations. That, combined with the upcoming holiday weekend that historically experiences above average rates of intake for animals at the city shelter, AAC and APA! need the community to act quickly.
“We are so grateful to Austin Pets Alive for working with us during this challenging time. APA is truly a lifesaving partner. How fortunate we are to be able to count on their support as we navigate our way through this critical situation,” said Tawny Hammond, Chief Animal Services Officer for the City of Austin.
The effort to alleviate overcrowding by such a large number of animals will be taxing on Austin Pets Alive!’s resources and they need the community’s support through donations, fosters and adoptions. Austin Pets Alive! will provide shelter and care for these 60+ animals until they find their forever home.
“Austin Pets Alive! is pleased to help Austin Animal Center and these pets. We strongly believe that the best way to keep Austin no-kill is by helping our partner shelters during critical times with our network of resources,” said Ellen Jefferson, Executive Director for Austin Pets Alive!.
Austin Pets Alive! has all adoptable animals listed on their website www.austinpetsalive.org/adopt. The current Super Shelter Adoptathon special of $25 applies to all animals (some restrictions apply).
APA! is in urgent need of more long-term fosters, who can provide a home for an animal until it is adopted. An online application is available: https://creator.zoho.com/austinpetsalive/forms/form-perma/Foster_Application/
