Pokey is a shorthaired dachshund that came to Austin Pets Alive! from Town Lake Animal Center after he was taken there as a stray. APA! brought Pokey into our program because he is paralyzed in the back legs due to a slipped disc in his spine and while most would give up on a dog like Pokey, APA! believes he deserves a real second chance!

Therefore APA! is sending Pokey to rehabilitation, receiving beneficial treatments such as acupuncture. He will also get to use a cart for his back legs to increase his mobility. Please help us in our efforts to treat Pokey and give him a new lease on life. Thank you!

10/27: Update! Pokey is now using his loaned cart to move around and has been very good with his water therapy. He sometimes stands for a minute or two already and takes 5-6 steps before he collapses again. The therapists have high hopes he will walk again and Pokey is going to therapy all day four days every week.
