You may have read the foster pleas that went out recently for four little pittie puppies taken from a man who'd been attempting to "train" them to fight. The puppies were only five months old. Their tiny bodies had already been subjected to home ear cropping jobs, food deprivation, and the abusive horrors that go with forcing a dog to fight for its life.
Animal Control confiscated the puppies and brought them to Austin Animal Center (formerly Town Lake Animal Center/TLAC) where their destiny quickly changed. When the puppies came up as at-risk for euthanasia and pleas for help went out, two of the puppies were adoped directly from AAC. The two remaining puppies are now seeking people of their very own. Saul went to foster through AAC and is available for adoption directly from them. Shane, his sister, came here to APA! as part of our Louie's Fresh Start program.
We love her.
Shane spent her first 21 days at APA! in a foster home working through our BUD (Bonding by Understanding Dogs) program and is now officially ready and available for adoption.
Shane is everything a puppy should be. She's inquisitive, affectionate, playful, and a professional napper. She has been working with our behavior volunteers regularly to ensure she gets the support she needs to grow into a well-adjusted adult dog. She recently went to her first TTouch class where she had a great time working through the obstacles. Her favorite part of class, however, was cuddling up to Cresta & Nguyet (her handlers for the evening) to get special snuggles called TTouches.
She also got in some more excellent nap and cuddles practice when one of our canine masseuses, Susan, paid her a visit. After some massage work, Shane cuddled up in Susan's jacket and went right to sleep. In between naps and cuddles, Shane continues to learn new tricks on our agility equipment, go for lots of walks with great socialization opportunities, and prove to the world that not only are pitties not meant to fight, they are some of the best snugglers around with a capacity for forgiveness and letting go of the past that could teach us humans a lot.
To adopt this sweet little girl, email [email protected] for more information or visit our website to see where you can meet her each day! Not only will you be bringing home a new best friend, you'll have a warm, snuggly, wiggly reminder of exactly what hope and second chances look like.
