It would be easy to say that Sugar is as sweet as her name. It would be true too. But just calling her sweet doesn't do justice to the depth and love present in this beautiful girl. Sugar is a graceful, gentle, and quiet dog who's soft face speaks volumes about the life she's led and the life she hopes for.
People often say, "If only dogs could talk." I think though, that they can. It's just not in the same way we do or in a voice we always take the time to understand. Sugar has plenty to say about the gratitude she feels when someone passes the time snuggling with her. She gives more affection and love than you could ever hope to return to her. She wants you to know how much those 15 or 30 minutes really mean.
When Sugar first came to APA!, she had some wounds on the side of her sweet face that we never learned the source of. They've healed now, but there's still a lingering sadness in Sugar's eyes that tells us her life up to this point hasn't been all green grass and belly rubs.
That sadness never wins though. Sugar is always ready for a nice long walk, some play time, or those cuddling sessions that seem to be the highlight of her day. She loves each person and other dog she's met, telling us that she's long since forgiven anyone who showed her something less than kindness in the past.
A dog who's truly as sweet as Sugar doesn't come along that often. Take her home and you'll have a loyal companion to fill your life with sunshine never stop saying thank you for doing the same in return.
