Have you ever heard that Beatles song “Hey Jude”? Well, I wasn’t named for it; it wasn’t inspired by me, but it speaks to my soul. It goes “Hey Jude, don’t make it bad, take a sad song and make it better, Remember to let her into your heart then you can start to make it better.” That’s my mantra now, but it hasn’t always been that way.
You see, my sister and I weren’t treated well when we were young and we ended up at TLAC and were rescued by APA! because they saw that we were special. We had some serious trust issues; we were even super territorial over our food.
APA! helped us trust others easier and shortly after that, Jade found her forever home. I, however, have not. I think it’s because it’s still hard for me to let others in. I’m working on that, but it takes me time to trust others. Ever felt that way?
Good news is my foster dad Brad has really helped me come out of my shell. I love running and chasing tennis balls. Did you know they make these amazing toys called squirrels? Oh I LOVE them! I have a LOT of energy. Did I mention I love to run? I love feeling the wind in my hair and the rush of the competition as I race, pushing my running partner to get the most out of the trail. I used to run with a UT Track star. I won’t say I wore them out, don’t want to embarrass them, BUT….
A lot of people have underestimated me, and I love proving them wrong. I am so smart. I am crate trained and learned a long time ago that carpet is not the same as grass. I’ve completed a Basic Rescue Class at Lee Mannix Center for Canine Behavior, and I am looking forward to taking a good citizenship course as well. Agility training would be a lot of fun for me too.
I’ve been to the dog park and it’s cool, but the other dogs just don’t get me. I forget how strong, handsome, and intimidating I can be. You know how it goes, YOU think you’re funny fabulous and interesting, but others are jealous of your speed and bulging biceps. Other dogs just can’t appreciate my exuberance but it’s only because I’m so excited to see everyone… I know in time I will find my stride and learn how to mingle.
I’m an active, all American boy and I want someone who is strong, confident and appreciates the great outdoors----someone who can help me see the world in a safe, stable way. I would love to get to the trail regularly for long walks and runs. Oh! I almost forgot! I also LOVE water! Give me a pool or take me to the lake - if there is water close by, I am in it!
Recently, I visited the cornhusker state (for those that don’t know, that is Nebraska). I got my picture taken in a corn field and didn’t realize corn grew that high. It was my first long distance road trip and I found that I really like riding in the car. I like to sit up and look out the window and put my nose right in front of the air conditioner vent. Who wouldn’t?! Car rides are great!
Man I have a lot of goals. But that’s me. I need someone who can support those goals. Someone who doesn’t have small kids, remember I mentioned my exuberance and bulging biceps? Sometimes I forget my own strength. I need someone who can match me in strength, stamina and intelligence; all while providing a safe little nudge and some steady direction. Think you can handle that? Ultimately, I want to take my sad song and make it better. I know I can. I just need YOUR help.
