Heart Failure Pets

We have no shortage of dogs and cats that capture our hearts, have hearts of gold, and break our hearts. Because these little fluffs touch our hearts so much, it’s important that we take care of theirs.

Austin Pets Alive! is currently caring for ten active cases of congestive heart failure in dogs and cats. Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) is a term that refers to the heart’s inability to pump adequate blood to the body. The specific issues with each animal’s heart valves may differ, but the typical symptoms involve fluid build up on their lungs, bellies, or limbs due to the heart not being able to move the blood around well enough.

In order to keep these animals comfortable and to help improve their heart function and blood pressure, they are on a steady regimen of very important medications. Without this medicine, it is difficult for them to breathe, and the fluid build up in their abdomen has to be physically drained frequently, which can be painful and frightening for them. By helping to make sure that APA! can always have these medications available for our friends with a little leak in their heart, you are helping them to experience a normal life that they would otherwise not be afforded.
