Meet Mary! Mary is a 2yr old Pitty Mix that Austin Pets Alive rescued Sept 22nd. She was diagnosed with a torn cruciate ligament in her right knee at her originating shelter and so was unable to stay there. She is painful and is on two pain medications but needs surgery as soon as possible. We are not sure what happened to Mary but it seems she has had this issue since before she
came into shelter life.
It may be the reason she was surrendered to begin with.
Orthopedic issues are often the reason owners surrender dogs because of the cost to repair. Austin Pets Alive understands surgery can be very cost prohibitive (even to us!) and rely on crowd funding to get these dogs back into homes through adoption.
