Flooding and Water Crisis (Updated 10/22 – 5:00pm)

Last updated 10/22/2018 at 5:00pm

This morning, the City of Austin issued a city-wide “Boil Water” notice due to the strain on its system from the recent flooding. So, we put out an ask to you, the community, for water donations.

Austin, you’ve done it again. Due to the overwhelming donations we’ve received from individuals and businesses today, we are officially in the clear in terms of having enough potable water.

It is hard to express appropriate thanks for what you’ve provided, but we can safely ask that any remaining donations be diverted to other shelters, organizations, or individuals who could use the help. We no longer have any storage capacity for additional water supplies at the shelter; but we feel very confident that we’ll be able to sustain our shelter for the duration of the water-boiling restrictions.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Please stay with us as we turn our sights on impending rains through Wednesday and the reemerging possibility of flooding. Because of that, we are still hoping to move as many animals as possible to foster.

If you can take a dog or cat into your home for at least 2 weeks, we still need your help. Please reach out to email hidden; JavaScript is required if you are willing and able to provide a safe space to a dog or cat in need. If you’re not already a foster, please fill out a quick foster application. You can find the dog foster application here and the cat foster application here. Already an APA! foster? Our team will start matching you with an appropriate animal and let you know when to come by our shelter.

Our shelter is open every day from 11:30am until 7pm and is located at 1156 W Cesar Chavez St, Austin, TX 78703. Thank you, so much, for all of your continued help.
