APA!’s PASS Program begins to help pet
owners maintain ownership and proper
care of their pets.
APA! starts saving more large breed
adult dogs than ever because of TLAC
cage space. APA! brings the Dogs
Playing For Life model to Austin. APA!
now has at least two playgroups a day,
every day, rain or shine and implements
an organized volunteer/dog program to
get dogs out of their kennels twice daily.
National research begins at APA! on
feline leukemia. All studies were/are
humane and done with a majority of
FeLV+ cats already in their forever homes.
Maddie’s Fund
Ⓡ
provides a
$4 million grant to make
Maddie’s
Ⓡ
Lifesaving
Academy possible.
Parvo ICU has its first major
renovation to increase its
capacity by 88 percent.
Research into feline leukemia will
continue after groundbreaking results
from the first study.
APA! pulls 100 percent of the orphaned kitten
population at risk for euthanasia at AAC into our
Bottle Baby Kitten Nursery which means Austin is
officially No Kill for kittens. We also begin our FeLV
and Barn Cat programs. Dazey’s Ward opens in
an effort to save more cats with ringworm. Saves
nearly 200 cats in its first year.
After a Panleukopenia outbreak, the
Bottle Baby Kitten Nursery adopts the
all in/all out method, which transforms
the nursery into three separate
quarantined areas to reduce the
spreading of illness.
Matchmaker program begins – No Kill for
Large Breed adult dogs including those
with moderate behavior issues.
We reach our 50,000th adoption.
APA! gets a three year agreement
to stay in its current location of
Town Lake Animal Center, giving
us more room to take in
vulnerable animals.
Tarrytown Dog Adoption
Center opens up.
Maddie’s Fund
Ⓡ
research into the
parvovirus begins at APA!.
Dog Behavior Program is established.
Three barn cats are placed as official
police animals.

percent with 99 percent of all cats and
dogs saved in the last few months of the
year. APA! saves 10,000 lives.

across the country and over 450
animal welfare workers learn
from the Austin No Kill Model to
save even more lives.
Our Bottle Baby Kitten Nursery and the
medical clinic officially open in APA!
trailers, and APA! makes an official
commitment to save every small breed
dog at risk for euthanasia at AAC.
Austin Pets Alive! is reborn as
a rescue organization
Off-site adoptions and on-site medical
care begin.
