Having a serious pet issue?
Positive Alternatives to Shelter Surrender (P.A.S.S.) is a service provided by Austin Pets Alive! (APA!) to help people help their pets to find new homes or to stay in their current homes.
Unfortunately, we do not take animals from the public. We pull straight from the kill list at the Austin Animal Center and we are the last chance for the pets on that list. For each animal we would take from the public that is one more pet that has to die in the shelter.
P.A.S.S. was created to fill in that gap by helping the public find resources to help keep their pets or pets they have found, out of the shelter. We have a whole variety of ways we can help you help your pet, from ad placement resources, to low cost medical options, behavioral resources, help with food, and even advocating on your behalf if needed. We are thrilled to share all of these resources with you so we can all work together to make Austin a No Kill city as soon as possible.
We will work together with you to determine and implement the best solution for you and your pet. Thank you for caring enough to try to keep your pet out of the shelter.
We are a nonprofit organization run by volunteers with limited funding to help owners rehome their pets. Some participation on your part is required during the process; however, we offer a positive alternative to kill shelters.
We recommend that you first take a look at the resources that are available in Austin to help owners with their pet problems.
*You should receive a response from one of our volunteers within 24 hours.
For information on rehoming an animal yourself, or finding a home for a stray or homeless animal, Best Friends Animal Society’s How to Find Homes for Homeless Pets is a great resource.
Austin Pets Alive!’s PASS program is supported by the Banfield Charitable Trust.
