In preparation for the upcoming kitten season, APA! is holding a free, open bottle-baby class on March 29th at 4pm to teach people how to care for unweaned kittens, who need to be fed every 2-6 hours, depending upon their age.
We are hoping to find some new foster homes to help us save the wave of kittens we are expecting. Not familiar with kitten season? Most cats have babies at the same time of the year. In December '08, 16 kittens under the age of 8 weeks were taken to TLAC. In May, it was 316!
Lots and lots of healthy kittens are killed at TLAC during this season (which runs from May throughout the summer) every year, as TLAC becomes overwhelmed with underage kittens who need a little extra help. After a few adoptable kittens on our website a month ago created a frenzy of people wanting to adopt them, we think that there are homes for these kittens and are calling on our compassionate community to get involved.
Of course, we are thrilled for anyone to help out with all of the kittens in Austin, whether or not you want to foster for APA!, so all are welcome, whether you foster for another organization or do it on your own.
To sign up for the class, please send an email to [email protected]. If you're interested in fostering, please check out our foster page.
