Temperatures drop and animal needs rise during the cold winter months.
With the projected freezing temperatures forecasted for the weekend and through the coming cold months, Austin Pets Alive! will see an increase in animal intake, as well as higher expenses and is asking for the community’s help with fostering and donations.
Although a generous grant was given by the Patty and Joe Rotunda Charitable Trust to install kennel tents that will keep our shelter dogs warmer in the winter, the installation is not complete and likely won’t be in time for this weekend’s freeze.
The way our old kennels were designed, the only way to keep the dogs warm is to close them in to a very small space that is heated. Since a majority of the dogs at the shelter are very large, it’s not the best situation for them to be cooped up like that. So, we are looking for foster homes, especially homes that have no other pets, to place 15-20 specific dogs that are impacted the most by the cold weather.
If a person cannot foster but would like to help, we will be in need of support through donations of blankets and towels, enrichment tools such as Kongs and monetary contributions to our Winter Fund.
