Germana brings more than 15 years of deep operational leadership to Austin Pets Alive!, following an early career in high-level corporate financial management. After working in public accounting at Arthur Andersen, she worked in international corporate accounting at Dell, working in finance at Yahoo where she directed the creation of the global corporate budget and consolidated financial operations. She brings to the board acute expertise in corporate budgeting, financial forecasting, large-scale project coordination, and operational logistics.
Germana’s deep institutional knowledge of APA! began in 2009 as a hands-on volunteer, which evolved into serving as Volunteer Director from 2011 to 2015. Over her nearly two decades of service, she has been deeply involved across daily shelter operations, including spearheading the initial volunteer-led renovation of the Town Lake Animal Center dog kennels in 2012, being involved with dog walking, dog behavior, and dog playgroups, and fostering medical cats and kittens. To streamline public inquiries, she also started and managed the Adoptline customer care team. This extensive operational foundation informed her recent five-year tenure as Board Co-Chair, where she helped guide the organization's high-level governance.
A dedicated foster advocate, Germana has opened her home to over 100 animals for the organization, focusing heavily on vulnerable populations like large dogs, kittens and medical cats. Today, she lives with two cats and a dog adopted from APA! Having witnessed the organization's immense growth firsthand from the shelter floor to the board room, she remains fiercely dedicated to sustaining and scaling APA!’s pioneering No-Kill mission.
