In an effort to help families and individuals who need to rehome a pet, the Austin Pets Alive Positive Alternatives to Shelter Surrender Program partners with Adopt-a-Pet.com to improve our free courtesy listings. In addition to being listed below, owners will now have the option to have their pet listed on multiple sites and receive expert advice from Adopt-a-Pet.com staff. And with over 3 million potential adopters using Adopt-a-Pet.com each month, community pets will find new homes faster keeping them out of the shelter environment.

If you’ve recently found a pet, DO NOT REHOME IT. Austin Pets Alive! Isn’t an open intake shelter. Please refer to our FOUND ANIMALS guide for help.

If you’re in need of resources to help keep your pet, please SUBMIT THIS FORM.

P.A.S.S. (Positive Alternatives to Shelter Surrender)

P.A.S.S. provides individual consultation so that individuals know of additional options to care for or keep their pets rather than surrender them to a shelter.

We have a variety of ways we can help you maintain ownership of your pet, including low-cost medical options, behavioral resources, help with food, and even advocating on your behalf if needed.

In the event that these resources don’t provide enough assistance, P.A.S.S. will work with you to help safely rehome your pet. If you are interested in reading other people’s stories, learning more about the process of rehoming, or are ready to take steps to rehome your pet, please check out the P.A.S.S. Facebook page. When joining the page, please be sure to answer the required questions, or else your membership request will be denied. Together, we can find the best solution for you and your pet.
